30 lb Weight Loss Challenge vegan to raw vegan week 3 update

I update you on the 30 lb weight loss challenge through 2 weeks. Brian lost a total of 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks! 15 more weeks left to go!

How did he do it? He is eliminating all added salt, sugar and fat from his diet. He is following the 80/10/10 calonutrient ratio, with 80% carbs, 10% fat and 10% protein.

His meals are mostly fruit, with oranges, apples, and bananas making up the bulk of his calories. He also has a large salad at dinner, with cabbage, spring mix, tomatoes, steamed peas and corn with an avocado and lime juice for the “dressing”.

No store-bought dressings are used, as those are typically full of added salt, fat and sugar. All foods are eaten in their whole food form, aside from an occasional smoothie of sweet fruits and water.

We also don’t use any supplements, no protein powders (not necessary), no nuts or seeds. Just fresh whole fruit and leafy green vegetables.

I also discuss the controversial subject of low fat diets and weight loss. Though you may have heard that eating fat is okay, most people consume way too much fat, from 30 up to 60% fat on even a vegan diet.

Does it make sense to eat fat if you want to lose fat? If you’re looking to lose body fat and lose weight you should be restricting your fat, not your carbohydrates.

Many of the studies done on low fat diets indicate no improvement because the “low fat” diet being used is typically still over 20% fat. To see improvement, fat should be reduced to at least 10%.
